President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently pledged to breathe new life into the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The initiative, which aims to establish an economic bridge that connects Asia to Europe via the Middle East, would place Israel at the heart of one of the world’s most ambitious cross-continental connectivity projects and transform the Jewish state into a vital hub for global trade.
First announced in September 2023 during the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India, IMEC covers 25% of the world’s population and 40% of global economic output. It was interrupted only a few months later due to the outbreak of the Hamas-Israel War in Gaza and the subsequent threats from Iranian proxies on maritime shipping in the Red Sea.
