The anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD), now the third-most popular political party in Germany, adopted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alternativefuer.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2016\/05\/2016-06-27_afd-grundsatzprogramm_web-version.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">manifesto<\/a> calling for curbs to migration and restrictions on Islam. The document calls for a ban on minarets, Muslim calls to prayer and full-face veils.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May 2<\/strong>. Hans-Georg Maa\u00dfen, the head of Germany\u2019s domestic intelligence agency, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ardmediathek.de\/tv\/Morgenmagazin\/Verfassungsschutz-Pr%C3%A4sident-Maa%C3%9Fen-hat-9\/Das-Erste\/Video?bcastId=435054&amp;documentId=35062126\" target=\"_blank\">revealed<\/a> that around 90 \u201cpredominately Arabic-speaking\u201d mosques in Germany are under surveillance. He said they involve mostly \u201cbackyard mosques\u201d where \u201cself-proclaimed imams and self-proclaimed emirs\u201d are \u201cinciting their followers to jihad.\u201d He called on moderate Muslims to work with the government to fight extremism and defend the constitutional order. Maa\u00dfen was speaking ahead of a security conference in Berlin at which he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/politik\/kampf-gegen-den-terror\/komplexe-terrorszenarios-taeglich-vier-moegliche-anschlaege-in-deutschland-14211869.html\">said<\/a> that his agency we receiving on average four terror alerts every day: \u201cThe Islamic State is committed to attacking Germany and German interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>May 2<\/strong>. During an investigation into the mass sexual assaults in Cologne on New Year\u2019s Eve, a chief superintendent from the Cologne police department <a href=\"http:\/\/www.welt.de\/regionales\/nrw\/article154977277\/Wer-wollte-dass-Vergewaltigung-nicht-auftaucht.html\" target=\"_blank\">revealed<\/a> that he was ordered to remove the term \u201crape\u201d from an internal police report about the assaults. The superintendent, identified only as J\u00fcrgen H., said that he received a telephone call on January 1 from an official at the interior ministry in North-Rhine Westphalia, who told him in an angry tone: \u201cThis is not rape. Remove this term from your report.
