In areas where a lot of Catholics live, we celebrate All Saint\u2019s Day, and in areas where not a lot of Catholics live we don\u2019t celebrate All Saint\u2019s Day. So why can\u2019t we think about Islamic holidays as well?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Maizi\u00e8re\u2019s statement, apparently aimed at enticing Muslim voters, prompted a furious backlash from his own party and political allies, who are still reeling from the CDU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatestoneinstitute.org\/11065\/germany-merkel-pyrrhic-victory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poor results<\/a> in the general election on September 24.
