Recent clashes between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) have underscored Iran\u2019s growing influence in the Gaza Strip. PIJ, a Sunni Muslim jihadist movement that seeks to annihilate Israel and replace it with a Palestinian Islamic state, receives funding, weapons, and training from Iran.<\/p>\n

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Iran funnels \u201ctens of millions of dollars per year\u201d to PIJ. \u201cTheir leadership visits Iran and meets Iranian leaders frequently,\u201d he said. Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid called PIJ \u201can Iranian proxy that wants to destroy the state of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n
